BIOGRAPHY

Paula Luisa Braga da Silva was born in Porto and completed the course of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering at FEUP in 1988. After a short experience at the industry, where she was responsible for Quality Control of Sintex Plastics Factory, joined the INEB ‐ National Institute Biomedical Engineering, where she remained, as a researcher, for 15 years. Over her career as a researcher at the INEB, she has participated in several international conferences and has published several papers in the field of Biomaterials. In 1994, she completed her Master in Materials Science Engineering at FEUP, presenting a thesis dedicated to "Ceramic Coatings Applications for Hip prostheses In 2002, she finished her PhD, in Engineering Sciences at FEUP, with a dissertation on the application of "Bioglasses in Orthopedic Biomaterials". The thesis was carried out simultaneously in INEB (FEUP) and Queen Mary College, London, under the guidance of Prof. Jonathan Knowles. From 1995 to 1999 she worked as an Assistant Professor at Department of Mechanical Engineering at ISEP ‐ Engineering Polytechnic Institute of Porto, and then joined the University of Tras‐os‐Montes and Alto Douro. Since then, she has been working as an Assistant Professor of the University, School of Science and Technology and also belongs to INEGI ‐ Instituto de Ciencia e Inovacao em Engenharia Mecanica e Engenharia Industrial. Until now conducted several courses of Materials Engineering Science and Biomaterials: Course of Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical and Energy, Genetics, and Bioengineering and Rehabilitation Engineering. She belonged to the Master in Rehabilitation Engineering and Human Accessibility coordination team. She was Coordinator of the Mechanical Engineering Graduation and Mechanical Engineering Master since 2017 to 2021. As part of her research activity she oriented, until the date, several master's thesis. It has at present about four mentees developing Dissertation on topics such as Biocomposites, Nanomaterials and Biomaterials. In 2005 she accomplished a postgraduate degree at the University of Texas at Austin, dedicated to the study and research of Nanomaterials, particularly carbon nanotubes, under the supervision of Professor Paulo Jorge Ferreira. At the moment she is a member of some Science Projects on Biocomposites and Nanomaterials, both as a coordinator and as a team member.
